Am I the only one bothered by the fact that The History Channel -- excuse me, "History" -- honored our fallen veterans this Memorial Day weekend with ... a Pawn Stars marathon?
I'm not surprised (whatever a Pawn Stars Marathon is). As the people who run things become younger and younger, no one will know what the day means anymore. Young people don't even watch the old movies about stuff like WWII. They haven't got a clue because even if it were adequately taught in school, which it is NOT, they don't pay attention. Then they grow up to become television executives. :P
Pawn Stars is a "reality" show about a family that runs a huge pawn shop. It's history related in that many of the items they buy or sell are historical ... but it sure isn't *history*. (I have to admit that it's growing on me a bit, though -- they get some really neat stuff.)
We watched documentaries about World War 2, and recorded the movies "Midway" and "Battle of the Bulge" for later consumption.
