Although, I suppose that if we had the stuff, we would actually be able to use fusion as an energy source. Except that the oil companies (and their bank backers) would figure out a way to make it impossible anyway to keep their profits sky-high, so...
Despite being practical in many other ways, I'm one of those people who tends to love science and space exploration just for the pure sense of discovery and exploration. Just the same, I think it might be possible to make great use of that gas, eventually. The only way it will happen is to make long range plans, which unfortunately the politicians who control the purse strings stink at doing. "Can we get this done before the next election? No? Then what does it matter?"
