Levee Failure in Poplar Bluff

The town closest to where Emily's mother's lives, Poplar Bluff, MO, is experiencing numerous levee breaks along the Black River and serious flooding made worse by continued heavy rains. Please keep everyone down there in your thoughts and prayers, and if you live in that area be very cautious: Stay out of the water, especially if it's moving, and get out of evacuation areas right away.

We found out about the levee break when we turned on the national news yesterday -- you know you're having a bad day when a cable news network or the Weather Channel leads off by pointing to you on a map.

Your section of the country has certainly been getting slammed. I'll keep you all in my thoughts.

Actually, we're in northern Indiana and haven't been getting hit nearly as hard as parts south. There was a stalled front that's been really clobbering Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, and Tennessee, along with southern Indiana and Illinois and other areas, but we've been unusually cool up here so the storms are less severe. We're supposed to get 2-3 inches of rain over the next day or so, though, and it's warm enough for bigger storms, so at the very least we'll get some flooding.
