Maybe it was busted when you bought it? Did you get a demo of it actually working? have you taken it for your money back?
Did you strip the wires enough to make connections? (I'm talking as if I know what I'm talking about here, I really don't. That is absolutely the only thing I know about changing a plug. That, and don't do it if you can get a fella to do it. Not really applicable in your case I suppose.)
