I’m sure some writers approach public appearances with the confidence of TV’s Richard Castle, who swaggers into every room like he has the world by the keyboard.

Richard Castle, on the other hand, actively presents this persona designed to keep people from getting too emotionally close, and spent six or seven seasons chasing after his love interest without actually asking her out.

If the price of public confidence is excessive private insecurities, I don't know if it's a good trade-off.
